Ryan Hood, 26, leads a contingent of law enforcement officers in the Torch Run for the Special Olympics this morning. Runners representing the Goldsboro Police Department, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Security Force, Neuse Correctional Institute and the county Probation and Parole Office took part in the run, which covered a total of 13 miles around the city. The purpose of the run was to raise money and awareness for the Special Olympics. Hood will compete as a power lifter at the Special Olympics Games in Raleigh June 1-3. He already has traveled to the World Games in Ireland as a bowler. Goldsboro Police Sgt. Neal Lynch, the coordinator for this year’s event, said organizers hope to raise $6,000. To buy a cap or T-shirt and help contribute, contact any officer from the above agencies or call 580-4273.
