Theater festival starts Thursday

WILSON -- Southern plays, food and culture will be the highlights of the 2007 Theater of the American South Festival that starts Thursday in Wilson and runs through June 3.
Featured at this year's festival will be Wayne County native Jamie Wooten, television writer/producer and playwright, who now lives in Asheville.
All of the lectures will be held in the Ragan Writing Center on the campus of Barton College. They are free and open to the public.
There will be several performances of "Driving Miss Daisy" and "Oldest Living Confederate Widow: Her Confession." They will take place at the Boykin Cultural Center, 108 Nash St. NE. Tickets are $20 and $18 for seniors 60 and older and students.
In addition, there will be cooking demonstrations and a gospel service.
The midday cooking demonstrations will be held in the Merck Science Courtroom of Imagination Station Museum, 224 E. Nash St. The late afternoon cooking demonstrations May 19 and June 2 will be held at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Mike Warden, 1110 Salem St. and the late afternoon demonstration May 26 at the home of Chris and Nora Williford, 2204 Greenwich Lane. Tickets for the midday demonstrations are $10 and for the late afternoon demonstrations $20.
A season passport ticket is available for all of the events including one performance of each of the plays and all cooking demonstrations for $100. There is also a weekly passport ticket for $50.
