Rosewood teacher is county Art Educator of the Year

JoAnn Smith, an art teacher at Rosewood High School, has been named the 2006-07 Zeno Spence High School Art Educator of the year for 2006-07.

Forty-two artists from Wayne County Public Schools were also recognized at the 16th annual Community Arts Council visual arts reception.

A list of the art winners includes:

Superintendent's Choice Art

First place: Joseph Mooneyham, Northwest Elementary; Abbigail Bottom, Meadow Lane Elementary; Marylu Bartolon, Spring Creek High; and Ngu Tran, Charles B. Aycock High

Second place: Donuell Artis, Edgewood Community Developmental School; Andrew Lockerby, Eastern Wayne Elementary; Joey Skelton, Norwayne Middle; and Jazmine Tinsley, Eastern Wayne High

Third place: Fredi Sanchez-Garcia, Spring Creek Elementary; Quasim Harris, Carver Heights Elementary; Ashley Ferguson, Brogden Middle; and Patrick Eason, Southern Wayne High

There were also 23 honorable mention students. The Superintendent's Choice Art will be on display for a year, in the hallways of the school system's administrative offices on Royall Avenue.

Other categories included Christmas Card: Casey Shearin, Eastern Wayne Elementary; Scholastic Art -- Gold Key: Hannah Emmerson, Eastern Wayne High; Shanetta Hobbs and Brianka Morgan, both from Southern Wayne High; and Silver Key: Lorelei Voronin and Emily Sauls, both from Eastern Wayne High; and Lisa Chowthi and Brianka Morgan, both from Southern Wayne High.
