The Wayne County Commissioners have declared Saturday, April 28, as Amnesty Day at the Wayne County landfill on South Landfill Road.

From 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., the county will waive the normal tipping fee for all county residents. The amnesty will not apply to commercial businesses or waste haulers.

The landfill will accept wood, bricks, limbs, yard waste, construction debris, furniture, white goods and tires. The amnesty also is an opportunity for people to clean out their garages and toolsheds and throw away those old bicycles, storm doors, grills, metal lawn furniture and other such items.

Lawnmowers also will be accepted, but the gas tanks must be removed.

Hazardous wastes and liquids will not be accepted.
