Mount Olive College art show opens Wednesday

MOUNT OLIVE -- The Mount Olive College Department of Art and Visual Communications will present its annual student show on Wednesday. An opening reception will be held from 4-7 p.m. in the Student Art Gallery in Laughinghouse Hall.
This exhibit highlights the work from classes taught by two of the college's newest faculty members, Justin Crosby and Kerri Eckes.
"Justin Crosby has brought sculpture back to our campus and Kerri Eckes, an alumna of MOC, now teaches drawing and painting," said Cheryl Hooks, chairman of the Department of Art and Visual Communications.
Crosby received his master of fine arts from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2005, and a bachelor of fine arts from the University of Alabama in 2002. His artwork has been exhibited nationally, and this May, it will be on display at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in Winston-Salem. Crosby joined the Mount Olive College Art Department in January.
Eckes holds a master of fine arts degree in studio art, with a concentration in painting, from East Carolina University. She earned her bachelor's degree in fine arts from MOC in 1999. She lives in the Raleigh area and works as an exhibiting artist who works primarily in acrylic and oil paints.
The Art and Visual Communications Department's annual student show will also feature graphic design work from students of Bob Murray, as well as some books from Hooks' bookmaking class. In addition, Hooks' painting class has a collaborative piece and a few still-life paintings on display.
