Two die in separate weekend shootings

Local law enforcement officials were called to respond to two separate shooting incidents over the weekend that left two men dead.
The first murder was logged by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office at about 2:18 p.m. Sunday. Deputies responded to the home of David John Carr Jr., 60, and his wife, Mary Elizabeth Carr, 57, at 535 Rollingwood Drive, Dudley, where they found a man dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim was identified as Eddie Lee Coley, 52, of 1384 Old Mount Olive Highway, Dudley, said Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour, who is the lead investigator in the case.
"No one was home at the time of the shooting," Farfour said.
Ms. Carr returned home after attending church and found the body, officials said.
Carr, who was reportedly highly intoxicated when authorities arrived, was immediately taken into custody.
"When I arrived, Mr. Carr was in a patrol car, and Mr. Coley was lying deceased in a barn," Farfour said. "He appeared to be shot, but he was deceased at the scene."
Coley was allegedly shot with a rifle, which was confiscated by authorities at the scene, officials said.
It remains unclear what prompted the shooting.
Neighbors who knew the pair were puzzled by the incident. They said the two were "drinking buddies."
No sign of a struggle was noted at the scene.
Carr is being held without bond at the Wayne County Jail on an open count of murder.
The second murder was logged by the Goldsboro Police Department at 3:22 p.m. Sunday.
Police responded to 602 Courtyard Circle and found Raheim Antwon Kornegay, 23, of Olivia Lane suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
A suspect remains at large and no murder warrants had been filed, officials said early this morning.
Details surrounding the shooting were unavailable. Maj. Jay Memmelaar, who heads the Investigations Division, did not respond to requests for comment.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations is assisting with the investigation.
Eight murders have been logged by law enforcement officials in Wayne County this year.
