The North Carolina Cooperative Extension's Southeast District will hold its annual AgriCultural Tourism Spring Tour May 3 in Sampson County.

The deadline for registering for the tour is April 30.

The tour provides a hands-on approach to learning and becoming involved with agricultural tourism.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. at the Sampson County Cooperative Extension Center. The $20 registration fee includes transportation and for lunch.

The first stop on the tour will be to see the Matthews Collection and to hear a presentation on the preservation of paper and textile artifacts. The tour will then visit the King Collection and stop at Christopher's Restaurant for lunch. During lunch, participants will hear Connie Mason, a heritage tourism development officer, how to start a museum or collection shop with no funds. After lunch, the group will travel to the Ashford Inn, where the owner will discuss the challenges of operating a bed and breakfast. The last visit of the day will be to the Sampson County Museum. All of the tour sites are listed online at www.homegrowhandmade.com.

To register, call Anna Peele at (910) 592-7161 or Lin Nichols at (910) 296-2143.
