Hit-and-run

A Goldsboro man faces charges for allegedly striking the gas attendant with his car as he tried to flee during a gas drive off.

Timothy Earl Darden, 27, of Randall Lane, faces two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of larceny in connection with the Tuesday incident, Wayne County sheriff's Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour said.

Darden also was charged with failure to pay child support.

The charges stem from allegations Darden hit a clerk at Short Stop on U.S. 117 South with his vehicle. The clerk tried to stop the suspect from leaving without paying for gas. The clerk was not injured in the incident.

Darden was placed under a $3,000 bond.
