The Goldsboro-Wayne Transportation Authority voted to raise its rates for van rides during the board's meeting Tuesday.
The rate change will not affect GATEWAY's bus routes, which run daily around Goldsboro. But GATEWAY's van services will cost more effective May 1. Vans will now charge $12 per person per ride -- a $4 increase. The out-of-county rate will increase by $15 to $50 per person per ride, GATEWAY Director Alan Stubbs said.
The board's decision Tuesday also included a stipulation allowing Stubbs to make any necessary changes to the out-of-county rates if a passenger asks to travel outside of GATEWAY's designated travel range, which goes as far as Greenville and Chapel Hill.
Stubbs said GATEWAY raised van service rates because it has been difficult to collect rates for Medicaid patients and the organization needs to shore up its financial situation.
