The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross received a national awar in Virginia Beach, Va.

The chapter was named a Highly Performing Chapter at a Waves of Change Red Cross leadership conference. Only five other Red Cross chapters in the Red Cross Mid-Atlantic Service Area, from Delaware to South Carolina, received the award. They were Union County and Greensboro chapters; Greater Richmond Chapter, Va.; and Red Cross of Central South Carolina and Piedmont Chapter, S.C.

They will be recognized at an event May 3 in Washington D.C.

Director Chuck Waller said the chapter goes above and beyond when it comes to serving the community through disaster relief, health and safety training and blood services.

Chapter performance standards are a roadmap for chapters as they build capacity and help their communities prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
