A 16-year-old teen was injured Sunday when he lost control of his car on U.S. 117 North in Pikeville, struck several objects and landed in a yard.
Khiry Tayvon Reid of Sycamore Street, Fremont, was traveling north on U.S. 117 at about 4:45 p.m. when he ran off the road to the left, struck a ditch, light pole and tree, highway patrol officials said.
After striking the objects, Reid's 2002 Ford sports utility vehicle spun around and landed in a yard in the 4600 block of U.S. 117 North.
Troopers and Wayne County Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the accident.
Reid, the only occupant, was transported by air ambulance to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Reid's medical condition was unavailable at presstime.
No drugs or alcohol were suspected in the accident. Driver inattention and exceeding the authorized speed limit contributed to the accident, officials said.
No citations were issued.
The vehicle owned by Africa Keil Reid of Fremont sustained $10,000 in damage.
