First Presbyterian and St. Paul United Methodist churches will have a joint service with Holy Communion and Tenebrae Maundy Thursday at 7 p.m. at St. Paul, 204 E. Chestnut St.

Tenebrae is also known as the "service of darkness," and is based on a 12th-century worship service that involved an extended meditation on the Passion of Christ.

The Rev. Drew Clark of First Presbyterian will be the homilist. Other leaders for the service will be the Rev. Ryan Rasmussen of First Presbyterian and the Revs. Dr. Homer Morris and Joann Turner of St. Paul United Methodist.

Music will be provided by the adult choirs of both churches directed by Dr. Jeremy Thompson and accompanied by members of the N.C. Symphony and clarinetist Querida Thompson of Goldsboro.
