Library to sponsor film series on '60s

The Wayne County Public Library has received a $1,000 grant from the North Carolina Humanities Council to help fund its third film discussion series: The Sixties: A Film History of America's Decade of Crisis and Change.
The program will begin April 15 and will continue each Sunday through May 27 and will consist of six sessions in the Gertrude Weil Auditorium at the Goldsboro Branch of the Wayne County Public Library.
Each session will take place from 2 until 4 p.m., with one exception. There will be no program on April 29 due to the library's Spring Book Sale.
Each week participants will view selected documentaries and then participate in group discussions. Topics include the early reform years of the Kennedy and Johnson administrations, the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War and its effect on the nation, and the Counterculture movement.
Dr. Alan K. Lamm, chairman of the History Department at Mount Olive College, will lead each of the sessions.
Library Program Director Matt Bolen said the first two film discussion series were overwhelmingly successful.
"The Wayne County Public Library is pleased to receive this funding from the North Carolina Humanities Council in order to bring this fascinating and culturally significant film series to our community," he said.
