Wayne technical students do well

Teams from Eastern Wayne, Norwayne, and Greenwood middle schools participated in the regional Technology Students Association competition at Sampson Community College recently, coming away with several honors.

TSA is a national student organization. Its mission is to inspire students to prepare for careers in a technology-driven economy and culture.

Eastern Wayne had three students receive third place awards -- Rebecca Kobler, in the categories of structural challenge and career challenge; Isaac DeVaughn for flight challenge; and Marques McPhail for place structural challenge.

Greenwood competed in 11 events and placed in seven of them. First-place winners included Alex King and Chris Rose for mechanical design, Irene Tsui for technical design and Michael Pinkston for dragster design.

Second-place winners were Darnell Reaves, communications and Ying Zhao, digital photography. Third-place winners were Enpei Wu, technical design, Alyssa McKoy, dragster design, Angel Huang, digital photography and Brianna Hinant and Amber Odom, medical design.

Norwayne competed in 14 events and won 12 trophies. First place winners included Bradley Glover, digital photography, Cameron Howell and Harlie Howard, medical technology, Heath Radford and Ben Munoz, environmental challenge; Marah Radford and Trent Radford, inventions and innovations.

Second-place winners were Amanda Howell, Bradley Glover, Matt Davis, Katie Whitley, Jamie Huffman, and Samantha Brock, chapter team; Samantha Brock, flight challenge; Tyler Pate and Matt Davis, mechanical design; and Samantha Brock, technical design.

Third-place winners were Marah Radford and Trent Radford, agriculture and bio-technology, Alaina Moore, graphic design,Matt Davis, electrical applications, and Amanda Howell, communication challenge.

The students will attend the state competition April 15-17.
