Man will face jury in Dudley murder

The suspect who fatally shot a Dudley man causing him to plow into a fire hydrant with his car in March 2006 will have to stand trial, a grand jury decided this month.
William Earl Bandy Jr., 25, of Alabama Ave., was indicted by the Wayne County Grand Jury March 5 on one count of murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied property in the March 29, 2006 shooting death of Frederick Anthony Coleman, 31, of Dudley.
Bandy is accused of shooting Coleman while he was traveling on South Alabama Avenue at West Spruce Street in his automobile. After the shooting, Coleman's 1989 Nissan veered out of control and struck a fire hydrant before stopping at Whitted Court.
A passenger, Alicia Brown of Dudley, was in the car with Coleman, but did not sustain fatal injuries during the shooting or the subsequent car crash. She told police a man ran up to the side of the car, spoke to Coleman and then shot him.
Coleman was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital and then to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville where he later died.
Laytoya Teashay Daniels, 22, of Faith Place, was also indicted March 5 on one count of assault on a handicapped person inflicting serious injury and patient abuse and neglect.
Ms. Daniels, a former employee of Nova Behavioral Healthcare Corp. on Airport Road, is accused of beating a 48-year-old mentally ill patient with a belt seriously injuring him.
Wayne County sheriff's officials received a complaint from the healthcare facility Aug. 25. Six days later, Ms. Daniels was taken into custody.
Bandy and Ms. Daniels are among the 82 cases the grand jury returned true bills during its monthly meeting. The grand jury did not hear five cases and they did not act on one.
Seventeen indictments were returned for various drug charges, 16 for larceny, 10 for breaking and entering, seven for robbery, five for burglary, three for various sex offenses; one for murder and one for attempted murder.
