Cookie sale ends soon, but one last chance set

If you don't have your Thin Mints yet, don't despair.
Although the annual Girl Scout cookie sale is coming to an end, a tractor trailer full of help is on the way March 24.
Security Moving and Storage keeps the cookies safe and sound for the girls to come pick them up during the six weeks of cookie sales each year. This year's sale began Feb. 10. Unsold cookies are due back at the company's offices March 20.
And then on March 24, the leftovers will be loaded back into a truck and taken to the parking lot in front of Michael's on Berkeley Boulevard. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., cookie lovers will get their second chance to capture their favorite flavors.
The Wayne County Scouts are close to reaching their 7,000-case goal for the year, said Deborah Brady, the product sales coordinator for the Girl Scout Council of Coastal Carolina. The council, which covers 21 counties, expects to sell 80,000 cases.
The money from the sale will help fund the Girl Scout programs throughout the year, Mrs. Brady said.
"We basically have six weeks to raise money to run Girl Scouts a year. United Way is very good to us and helps us with a lot of programs. But they can't give us everything we need to support our volunteers and to train our leaders," she said.
Those who don't have a sweet tooth can buy cookies to send to military personnel in Iraq through a Girl Scout campaign called Cookies for Your Courage. Those interested in helping with the upcoming shipment out of the USO in Jacksonville can visit the tractor trailer on March 24 or call Ms. Brady at the council office at 734-6231, Ext. 116.
Any cookies bought for donations are tax-deductible, she said, as long as you don't take possession of them.
