The Forest Service has declared today a "red flag day," and is warning Wayne County residents to put off any outdoor burning.
Wayne County Forest Ranger Dwight Bright said there has been no burning ban issued but that forest rangers across the region are on alert because of the windy, dry conditions.
"All of our people and all of our equipment are on alert today," Bright said. "We encourage people to put of burning for a day, but if you have to burn today, be out there with it and have a water hose handy to extinguish it."
