Suspect: Stabbing at home justified

A suspect arrested for allegedly stabbing a man this week told officials he was only trying to defend his home when the alleged assault occurred.
Johnnie Rowe, 50, of 812 Crawford St., was in court Thursday to answer charges that he allegedly stabbed Lonzo Conner Jr.
Goldsboro police and Wayne County Emergency Medical Services responded to 812 Crawford St. about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday and found Conner suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Conner, 33, of Slocumb Street, told police someone stabbed him with a knife at the residence. Conner was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital with serious injuries and a search for the suspect ensued.
A warrant for Rowe's arrest was issued Wednesday and he was captured Thursday, police said. Rowe faces one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
Rowe, who has an extensive criminal record which includes assault on a law enforcement officer, armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and escape, was being held at the Wayne County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
Conner remains at Wayne Memorial Hospital Thursday, hospital officials said. His medical status was unavailable.
