DUDLEY -- Two juveniles' attempt to set off a gas explosion at Brogden United Methodist Church on U.S. 117 South ended with a snap, and a fizzle, but not quite the pop they were looking for.
Wayne County sheriff's officials responded to a call about a damaged gas line at the church Feb. 20. After investigating the matter, officials learned two juveniles allegedly cut the gas line.
They threw a wad of lighted pine straw toward the damaged gas line and waited for the explosion, but to no avail.
The juveniles were apprehended and charged with injury to personal property, Detective Sgt. Bob Golimowski said. They were released to their parents' custody.
A witness provided helpful information that led to the arrests, Golimowski added.
