A local retired Highway Patrol trooper and graduate of Mount Olive College has published a book that describes his 32 years of experience in law enforcement.

"A Black Cop in the South," was written by Ronald K. Rawlings, who grew up in Princeton and who now works as a school resource officer at Eastern Wayne High.

The book describes Rawlings' struggles to become a lawman at a time when the occupation was dominated by whites. Ironically, it was a white law enforcement officer who prompted the young Rawlings to pursue his dream.

The book is being featured by the African American Literature Book Club.

Rawlings will hold a book signing Feb. 24, from 1-4 p.m. at the school he attended as a youth in Princeton, the Princeton Graded School.

Rawlings, who retired from the patrol in 2004, also holds a master's degree from Central Michigan University.

More information about the book can be obtained by visiting AALBC.com and clicking on the montly bulletin or going to http://authors.aalbc.com/ronald.htm, or by visiting http://msamsoft.com/clients/rawlings/

The book is also available at Amazon.com, Barnes and Nobles, and other book stores.
