Apartment fire ruled arson

Heavy flames and smoke damaged an apartment in the 2800 block of McClain Street about 9:45 p.m. Thursday, leaving more than $35,000 in damage.
Fire investigators determined that the fire was purposely set and said that the investigation would continue.
The Goldsboro Fire Department arrived at 2800-B McClain St. near Central Heights Road and found smoke billowing from one of the four apartments in the complex.
Eddie Teyon Williams, 18, lived in the apartment but no one was at home at the time, Goldsboro Assistant Fire Chief Eric Lancaster said.
Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire. In just 14 minutes, the fire was under control.
Lancaster said he was proud his men were able to bring the fire under control so quickly and prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining units.
"We were able to contain the fire to the living room and bedroom," Lancaster said. "There were multiple places of origin, but the bulk of the damage was in those two rooms."
Investigators said there were four points of origin, including a couch, burnt paper on a computer desk, burnt paper on the stove and in the back bedroom.
The case was turned over to the Goldsboro police.
