Goldsboro and Wayne County firefighters spent time over the weekend responding to a number of runaway grass fires sparked by residents failing to contain controlled burns. County Fire Marshal Bryan Taylor said people who want to burn should obtain authorization beforehand and be prepared to handle sudden shifts in wind direction. Above, volunteers from Indian Springs, Dudley and Arrington departments responded to a grass and woods fire on Arrington Bridge Road Sunday at about 2:30 p.m. Firefighters were on the scene for about a hour before the flames were completely extinguished.
