DWI case delayed
The case of a Wilson County trooper charged with drunken driving has been postponed until April.
The court date for Trooper Darian Neal Smith, 31, of Goldsboro, was scheduled for Monday, but the case has been reset for April 3, officials said.
Smith was charged with DWI after a motorcycle accident on Hare Road Sept. 11. Officials determined Smith allegedly was under the influence of alcohol. Smith, who is assigned to the Wilson County Highway Patrol, was severely injured in the accident. He remains on the force and is on medical leave pending the outcome of the case.
Smith is one of three law enforcement officers with Wayne County ties charged with DWI in just four months.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Jeremaine Wallace said several suspects entered his home in the 100 block of Timothy Street, Dudley, on Sunday, and robbed him and two women. The thieves stole a Baby Phat purse, $403 cash and two cell phones. No injuries were reported.
*Someone tried to break into St. Andrew Christian Church, 322 Rollingwood Drive, Dudley. Thieves shot BBs at the windows and tried to pry open the doors. Damage was set at $1,050.
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A quick response from several Goldsboro police officers helped in the arrest of two juveniles who allegedly tried to break in to the Swap Shop on South George Street Saturday night. Police responded to the business at about 7:45 p.m. after an employee reported someone was on top of the roof. B-Shift officers set up a parameter around the business to catch the alleged thieves. The juveniles later ran into D&H Mart an attempted to blend in with customers inside the store. Capt. Mike West and Sgt. Gerry Nance entered the store, found the suspects and took them into custody without further incident. Both juveniles were charged with felony breaking and entering and first-degree trespassing and released to their parent's custody, police said.
*Cameron L. Miller reported Feb. 5 someone entered his car while parked in the 100 block of Fallin Boulevard and stole his laptop computer, digital camera, Oakley sunglasses, computer case and other items, all valued at $2,375.
*Dina Hernandez reported Feb. 5 someone snatched her purse from her shopping cart in the Wal-Mart parking lot at 1002 N. Spence St. The designer purse contained a Razor cell phone, $35 cash, credit cards and ID. Damage was set at $250.
