Dillard MS students caught with bullets

Two Dillard Middle School students will face disciplinary action and possibly criminal charges after being caught with bullets at the school Friday afternoon.
Goldsboro police responded to the school on Devereaux Street at about 5 p.m. after a school employee placed a 9-1-1 call to report the incident.
"The teacher saw the child fumbling around in a bookbag," GPD Maj. Mike Hopper said. "She waited to talk to the child later."
Hopper said the teacher confiscated the bullets and turned them over to police.
"There was no sign of a weapon," Hopper said.
School officials this morning confirmed the incident and said there were two students involved, both eighth-grade males, ages 13 and 14.
Ken Derksen, public relations officer for Wayne County Public Schools, commended those at the school for handling the situation and contacting police.
"This is something we take seriously," he said. "That's why the students will be disciplined to the full extent under board policy and according to the law."
Hopper said he was unsure how the bullets ended up in a backpack or if a juvenile petition will be filed. The female officer who responded to the scene was unavailable until Wednesday, Hopper said.
