Base gets readiness test from top brass

It promises to be an unusual week in Goldsboro and Wayne County.
Some of your neighbors won't be home at their usual time, parking lots might seem a bit emptier and camouflage gear will be less prevalent on the streets and roadways.
Beginning late this evening, members of the 4th Fighter Wing will be involved in an operational readiness inspection, during which they will show off their war-fighting skills and deployment capabilities to Air Force officials.
Loud noise, an increased number of F-15E Strike Eagle take-offs and, generally, more action, can be expected from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base during this time, officials said.
The inspection will run through Saturday and until then, residents should expect to hear the eagles flying from 6 a.m. to midnight.
Wing Commander Col. Steve Kwast said this week will serve as an important test for the airmen and asked that members of the communities surrounding the base support them this week.
"This inspection will provide us with a report card on our wartime readiness, as well as providing a valuable training opportunity to ensure the members of Team Seymour are poised and ready to deliver airpower for America on time and on target anywhere in the world," he said.
