Councilman Rev. Williams announces his bid for re-election

At least one familiar name will appear on Goldsboro ballots this November.
The Rev. Charles Williams has made it official -- the District 4 representative will, again, seek re-election to the city council.
"I am delighted and feel very fortunate to have been a pat of the tremendous progress in the area of governance for the city of Goldsboro," he said. "It has been both a challenging and rewarding experience for me."
That progress, he added, includes the completion of a new City Hall facility, approval of the Paramount Theater and Community Building reconstruction projects and continued efforts by the current council to help the underprivileged through improving downtown and its surrounding neighborhoods.
"My tenure on the City Council has enabled me to be an advocate for the underprivileged, the elderly, children and youth," Williams said.
But still, he added, there is always more work to be done.
Over the next year, he plans to fight for more street paving and lighting projects and continue to push for a revitalized downtown
"We have several projects on the priority list," Williams said.
One that he will continue to fight for is a civic center, a facility he said has been in his vision from the beginning of stint in city politics.
"When I first ran for office on the council 11 years ago, the civic center was a No. 1 priority," Williams said. "Unfortunately, it is no longer a top priority, but I will continue to voice my support for (the facility) to be erected downtown."
Williams is the first member of the council to announce his candidacy for another four years in office. All six seats on the board are up for election this year, as is the mayor position.
