Two teens killed in Johnston accident

KENLY -- Two teenage drivers died and a passenger was injured in a head-on collision Sunday night between Smithfield and Kenly.

The drivers were Nicholas Ryan Creech, 16, of N.C. 39, Selma, and Reece Leighton Richardson, 17, of Richardson Road, Kenly. The passenger, Travis Whitley Foster, 16, of Fab Whitley Road, Kenly, was a passenger in Creech's vehicle.

The Johnston County Highway Patrol is investigating the collision. Investigators said they do not yet know which driver crossed the center line. According to the Highway Patrol's initial report, the two vehicles collided around 7:30 p.m. on state road 2390 about a mile south of Kenly. Creech was going south, and Richardson was going north.

Johnston County authorities said the investigation into the accident was continuing today.

Foster was taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital and transferred to Wake Medical Center. He was listed in fair condition.
