Man gets
probation in
traffic death
A Seven Springs man was sentenced to probation for the fatal death of a Mount Olive who died after a head-on collision in February.
Angelico Reyes Cruz, 31, of Billy Price Road, Seven Springs, was convicted of felony death by motor vehicle. A second charge of involuntary manslaughter was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Wayne County Superior Court Judge Paul Gessner sentenced Reyes Cruz to 12 to 15 months in prison, but the sentence was suspended. Reyes Cruz also was ordered to serve 24 months probation and pay $1,730.50 fine and court costs.
The charge stems from an accident that killed 19-year-old Victor Cerritos of Old Smith Chapel Road, Mount Olive. Cerritos died from injuries he received in a two-vehicle collision on N.C. 55 Feb. 21. Reyes Cruz, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, was ruled at-fault.
