A man's attempt to rob a convenience store on Ash Street erupted into a scuffle between the store clerk and a tire iron-wielding robber early this morning.
A man walked into the Pantry, 1601 E. Ash St., about 2:45 a.m. and asked for change. When the clerk, Michael Conley, approached the counter, the man displayed a tire iron wrapped in a towel and demanded money, according to a Goldsboro police report. Conley refused to comply and an altercation ensued. After the scuffle, the suspect ran out of the store empty-handed, jumped into a white car and headed north on Jefferson Street. No serious injuries were reported.
The suspect is described as a black man about 29 years old with a heavy build. He was last seen wearing a black hat, white shirt and jeans. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to call Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255.
