Suspect in shooting arrested

A Fayetteville man who allegedly opened fire on an unsuspecting driver on North Slocumb Street last Friday is now in custody.
Antron Demon Hines, 22, of Chandler Street, turned himself in to the Goldsboro Police Department without incident Thursday, said Investigator Doug Bethea, who is the lead detective in the case.
"He turned himself in to Investigator (Dave) Cloutier this afternoon," Bethea said Thursday evening.
Cloutier had worked with Hines in the past on a previous case and had developed a relationship with the suspect, officials said.
Hines was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and firing into an occupied dwelling. He was placed under a $25,000 secured bond.
Hines allegedly stood in the street and opened fire on 22-year-old Robert Lee Mitchell II of South Kornegay Street Jan. 5. Mitchell was driving north in the 500 block of Slocumb Street in his green 1993 Ford Explorer about 1:45 p.m. when Mitchell allegedly fired at him.
At least one bullet from a large caliber weapon pierced the driver's side of the front windshield and struck Mitchell in the face.
Mitchell then drove to his home on South Kornegay Street and called for help. He was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Mitchell saw his alleged attacker and told police. A warrant immediately was issued for Hines' arrest. He turned himself in to police the day after his picture was featured in the local newspaper.
Mitchell and Hines allegedly had a run-in in the past.
Mitchell told police that on Dec. 23 Hines stole his wallet while in the parking lot of Express Food Mart, 518 E. Elm St., and ran from the area.
Hines also was charged with felony larceny of a person in connection with the December incident. Hines was also wanted for failure to appear in court for a traffic violation. He was placed under another $25,600 secured bond for the additional offenses, Bethea said.
