The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce is taking reservations for its annual banquet at the end of the month to honor individuals and businesses in the community.
The annual event, which is sponsored by R.A. Jeffreys Distributing Co., Time Warner Cable, Deltacom and Progress Energy, will be 6 p.m. Jan. 30 at the Walnut Creek Country Club.
The evening will begin with the reception and will be followed by a dinner beginning at 7 p.m. Entertainment for the event will be provided by pianist Thomas Vick of Thomas Music and Entertainment.
One of the highlights of the event, which has become a tradition since its inception in 1996, is the presentation of the Cornerstone Award. The award annually recognizes an individual who has given years of his or her life in service to Wayne County.
Previous recipients include Richard B. Moffatt, Hal Tanner Sr., Clarence "Icky" Peacock, William Dees Jr., Hal Plonk, Bertha Shepherd Wooten, Ollie Tommey, Troy Pate Jr. and Jimmie Edmundson. Last year's recipient was William P. Kemp Jr.
Then, the chamber will look to the future when the 2007 chairperson, Georgia Dees of The Pines of Goldsboro, introduces her goals and her board members for the coming year.
Individual seats are $30 per person or businesses can secure an eight-person table for the evening for $400 each.
The chamber also has sponsor packages available. Since seating is limited, people and businesses must reserve their seats by Jan. 23. To reserve a seat or for more information on the banquet, call the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce at 734-2241. Reservation forms are also available at the chamber's office at 308 N. William St.
