Gaming expo at WCC to be held January 27

Phi Beta Lambda, a business club associated with Wayne Community College, will host its second annual Goldsboro Gaming Expo on Saturday, Jan. 27. From 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., the college's Wayne Learning Center building will be the site of video game tournaments, industry speakers, product promotions, exhibition booths, student recruitment, and family activities.
Last year's expo attracted 750 participants, and organizers are calling the 2007 version "the biggest video game event in eastern North Carolina."
Tickets are $7.50 in advance and may be reserved online at www.g2expo.com. They will be $10 at the door.
The main entertainment attraction will be tournaments (entry fees are in addition to entry ticket cost) and unlimited free play of the latest games on consoles including the Xbox 360* video game entertainment system. Nearly a dozen vintage arcade games will be available - all free with the price of admission.
All ages are invited to attend the expo, but gamers must bring photo identification to be admitted to games rated above E (Everyone) in the Entertainment Software Rating Board ratings system. No games with an AO (Adults Only) rating will be featured.
A number of speakers, including corporate executives, creative leaders and educators, are scheduled. Some of the topics and presenters include:
"Introduction to Game Design" by Rafael Chandler, creative director of Media Sunshine, a company that provide consulting services to game developers and publishers;
"From Dream to Reality - Your Game Development Career" by Bruce Shankle who has 13 years of software development experience covering different industry segments including military, space, imaging, telephony, and electronic entertainment; and
"Revolution and Evolution Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games" by Robert Rice, author of MMO Evolution and an authority in the design, development, production, operations, community development and management of persistent immersive environments, massively multiplayer online games, and large scale online communities.
There will be also be three panel discussions -- getting an education to go into graphics and game design careers by state educators, understanding the women gamer and what type of changes need to be made to tap this large buying community, and a general question-and-answer session.
