Wayne Community College's annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration this year is dedicated to the memory of its late security department captain Clarence "Jay" Simmons, who died in April, with a scholarship to be announced in his name.

Bishop Alton Smith, pastor of St. Mark Church of Christ, which Simmons attended, will be the featured speaker at ceremonies on Thursday, beginning at 1 p.m.

The public is invited to the free event in Moffatt Auditorium.

A "Soul Food Festival" will follow, with a $2 fee for the food-tasting event.

For more information, call Janice Fields, the college's minority affairs officer and recruiting counselor, at 735-5151, ext. 739.
