Woman found dead in motel

Goldsboro police are investigating the death of a woman who was found dead at a room in the Econo Lodge on New Year's Day.
Taletha Rebecca Kearney, 25, of 103 Holly Road, was found unresponsive in Room 123 at the motel located at 704 Corporate Drive. An acquaintance identified as Tony Lacel Battle, 36, of 719 National Drive, reported the incident about 6:34 a.m.
Wayne County Emergency Medical Services and Goldsboro police were dispatched to the motel.
Goldsboro police Investigator Steve Harmon, who was called out to investigate Ms. Kearney's death, said foul play has not been ruled out.
"There could have been several causes, but (foul play) has not been ruled out," Harmon said. "I hope to know something soon. An autopsy will be performed today. We hope to get the results fairly soon."
Harmon declined to say whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in her death or to describe the circumstances surrounding Ms. Kearney's death.
Harmon said he is also awaiting the toxicology results in the case.
