Wayne County should be quiet on New Year's Day as all government offices and many businesses will be closed.
The City of Goldsboro and its departments will be closed for the holiday. Anyone who wants to pay a water bill at City Hall will have to wait until city offices reopen at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Wayne County offices also will be closed on Monday, along with all state government offices.
The county landfill and Wayne's 13 recycling convenience centers will be closed on Monday.
All federal offices will be closed on Monday as well, along with the town halls in Mount Olive, Fremont and Pikeville.
City sanitation services for Goldsboro residents scheduled for Monday, such as garbage pickup, will be conducted on Wednesday.
Waste Industries, which handles solid waste collections for most of the county, will also be closed Monday. Customers whose waste is normally picked up on Monday will have it picked up on Tuesday.
Those who need transportation on New Year's Day can still count on the Goldsboro-Wayne Transportation Authority's regular bus schedule. Buses will run from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. along their normal routes.
In addition to being closed on New Year's Day, all federal offices -- including the Postal Service -- will be closed on Tuesday. President George W. Bush ordered federal offices that day closed in honor of former President Gerald Ford.
