State Highway Patrol investigators say excessive speed played a factor in a fatal motorcycle accident that took the life of a young man Friday evening.
Andy Jay Bunn, 22, of Runnel Place, was traveling south in the 1100 block of Sandhill Drive near Durham Lake Road when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a tree, Trooper R.W. Murphy said. Bunn was pronounced dead at the scene.
Firefighters from Mar Mac Volunteer Fire Department, Wayne County Emergency Medical Services and the Highway Patrol were dispatched to the accident.
Two witnesses said that before the crash they saw Bunn traveling at a high rate of speed, Murphy said.
"Two were headed to Durham Lake Road," Murphy said. "They saw him go by and they said he was going pretty fast.
"They saw him run off the road. They stopped and went back to try to help him, and they called 911."
Murphy said Bunn was wearing a helmet.
