For the first time in nearly 40 years, the roadsides of Parkstown echoed with the sound of marching bands and hundreds of shouting children as the community's Christmas parade made its triumphant return Thursday.
"The Biggest Little Parade in the World," was resurrected this year by a small group of residents and former residents of the eastern Wayne County community, who watched with big smiles as colorful floats, antique cars and tractors, military units and fire trucks made their way down LaGrange Road.
"I was really, really pleased with the way things turned out," said parade committee chairman James Bowden. "To see so many people from the community pitching in and helping out, it made me really proud. It was a total community effort."
Bowden, who said he remembers his father helping stretch strands of Christmas lights for the parade in the 1960s, said the committee plans to hold the parade again next year.
