An 18-year-old Goldsboro girl was struck and killed by a motorist while walking along Central Heights Road near New Hope Road late Wednesday.
Apryl Nicole Smith of Branwood Drive was walking in the northbound lane of Central Heights Road when she was struck by an approaching vehicle. Ms. Smith was apparently walking with her back turned to northbound traffic when she was struck, according to the Goldsboro Police Department report.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as 19-year-old Joshua Paul Jendrisak of Amherst Place. Jendrisak, the driver of a 1997 Volvo, was traveling north on Central Heights Road at the time of the accident.
Jendrisak was traveling at the posted speed limit of 45 miles per hour when the teen was struck at about 10:28 p.m., police said. Ms. Smith was knocked 208 feet upon impact.
Units of the Goldsboro Police Department, Goldsboro Fire Department and Wayne County Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene.
It was unclear if charges would be filed at all in the accident. No additional information was available from the police department since the reporting officer was unavailable this morning.
The accident caused $2,500 in damage. No other injuries were reported.
