Pam Walker, the corporate communications director for the N.C. Education Lottery, said she won't know who won the jackpot until she sees "the whites of their eyes."
Although other winners have had the names of their towns or counties released before they came forward, she said the process is different for jackpot winners. She said she can't give even a hint about which part of the state where the winning ticket was sold until she finishes following some stricter security measures.
Because this is the first time North Carolina has had a Powerball jackpot winner, she said she doesn't even know how long the new security process will take.
But she said he hoped to be able to announce at least the town or county of origin of the $74.5 million ticket some time today.
The jackpot has been growing since Nov. 4, when the total stood at $15 million.
