Suspect turns himself into police

A Goldsboro man who was being sought for allegedly shooting his ex-wife's boyfriend turned himself in to police Sunday afternoon.
Samuel Devon Cannon, 29, of Brock Street, surrendered without incident, Investigator Dave Cloutier said.
Cannon was being sought in connection with the shooting of Jemaul Tavon Sheppard, 23, of Courtyard Circle. Sheppard and Brenda Renee Cannon, 27, were standing near her home in the 200 block of Wisteria Lane, when Samuel Cannon allegedly opened fire on Sheppard about 12:19 a.m. Thanksgiving Day.
Sheppard was shot in the left arm, lower back and left leg. He was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The shooting allegedly stemmed from an argument Sheppard, his girlfriend, Brenda Cannon and Samuel Cannon had earlier in the evening.
Samuel Cannon ran from the area after the shooting and a manhunt ensued. Cloutier secured a warrant for the suspect and circulated photos urging residents to call with information about the suspect's whereabouts.
Three days later, Samuel Cannon showed up at the police station to answer felony assault charges.
He is being held without bond at the Wayne County Jail. A court appearance is scheduled for tomorrow.
