Suspect sought in holiday shooting

Goldsboro police have launched a manhunt for a suspect who allegedly opened fire on another man Thankgiving Day -- and they are asking for the public's help to capture him.
Samuel Devon Cannon, 29, of 1707 Courtyard Road, his last known address, is being sought by police for allegedly shooting Jemaul Sheppard, 23, of Courtyard Circle, several times, GPD Investigator Dave Cloutier said.
Police responded to the 200 block of Wisteria Road about 12:20 a.m. and found Sheppard had been shot in the left arm, lower back and left leg.
"Rescue units were summoned and they responded and transported Sheppard to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted for surgery and treatment," Cloutier said.
Sheppard was listed in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital early today.
The shooting stemmed from an argument Sheppard, his girlfriend, Brenda Cannon, 27, and the suspect had earlier in the evening. Brenda Cannon is Samuel Cannon's estranged wife, Cloutier said.
Cannon apparently ran from the area after the shooting. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Cannon faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and firing into an occupied dwelling in connection with Thursday's incident.
Cannon is known to frequent the Courtyard Apartments and Seymour Homes areas, police said. Anyone with information about Cannon's whereabouts is asked to call Cloutier at 580-4242 or the 911 Dispatch Center at 705-6572.
Callers also may call Goldsboro-Wayne Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous and could receive up to $1,000 cash if their information leads to a felony arrest.
