Rifle shot

hits house

Clifford Bruce of 215 Beaver Drive near Dudley said someone, possibly a hunter, fired a rifle shot into his home Monday about 8:30 a.m while it was occupied, according to a report filed by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. The bullet passed through the house only a few feet from people inside the home at the time, Bruce told investigators and damaged a wall panel and a trailer outside. Damage was set at $500.

Investigations

Two burglary suspects were taken into custody thanks to the help of an alert citizen and the quick action of a Wayne County sheriff's deputy Monday night. David Craig Lewis, 40, of S. Virginia Street, and Anthony Jerome Lee, 38, of Daffodil Drive, face charges of second-degree burglary. Both were being held in the Wayne County Jail under $25,000 bond. The charges stem from the theft of a clothes dryer from a home on Windsor Drive. A neighbor saw someone taking the appliance and leaving in a vehicle and called 911. Deputy Chuck Arnold found the vehicle on Bill Lane Boulevard and discovered the dryer in the trunk. One suspect escaped.

Goldsboro police arrested a third suspect wanted in connection with a residential break-in that happened last summer. Cleon Jones, 36, no address, was charged with obtaining property by false pretense and possession of stolen goods. Jones was being held at the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $3,500. The charges stem from an investigation launched by Investigator Dwayne Bevell into a break-in that occurred at 708-A E. Chestnut St. in late August. An antique cabinet and a stove, valued at $400, were stolen
