Community Thanksgiving service today at 5 p.m.

A community Thanksgiving service is planned for 5 p.m. today at Madison Avenue Baptist Church.

The event is sponsored by the interdenominational and interracial ministers' group CLIFF, which prepares the Community Lent and Advent Services each year.

The preacher will be the Rev. Louis Leigh, pastor of First African Baptist Church. The Rev. Drew Clark of First Presbyterian Church will offer a Prayer of Thanksgiving. Wayne Memorial Hospital Chaplain, the Rev. Suzanne Franklin, will lead a Litany of Thanksgiving.

Other participants will in-clude the Rev. Bill Ordelt of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the Rev. Rose Hicks of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, the Rev. Christian Umeofia of Africa Missions for Christ, the Rev. Gene Carpenter of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, the Rev. Ralph Johnson of Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church and the Rev. Glenn Phillips of First Baptist Church.

Soloist will be Tia Lewis from First African Baptist Church. Dave Periconi will be the organist and the Bell Choir from Madison Avenue Baptist Church will play "Ring Thanksgiving Praise."

A joint choir will be led by Edwin Jewell of Madison Avenue Baptist Church, and singers from any congregation are invited to the 4:30 p.m. practice today before the service.

Jewell and the Rev. Fred Clarke of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) led the planning team. An offering will be received for the Community Soup Kitchen.

The public is invited to attend.
