A Goldsboro woman remains in a Greenville hospital recovering from injuries she sustained in a three-vehicle accident that killed her husband and injured two others last month.

Sharetta Herder, 28, of Dudley, the driver of a Dodge Status, was injured in the accident that occurred on N.C. 13 South and Country Lane Road about 6:30 a.m. Oct. 4. The accident killed Mrs. Herder's husband, 41-year-old Pervis Herder, and injured two other drivers, Jeffrey Mozingo, 25, of Mar-Mac, and Willie Satchell Jr., 41, of Rose Hill.

The at-fault party in the case has not been released. The Wayne County District Attorney's Office will determine if charges will be filed, Highway Patrol officials said.

The accident occurred when Mozingo lost control of his Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck while traveling north on U.S. 13, officials said. Mozingo ran off the road to the right, struck a mailbox, overcorrected, drifted into the opposite lane and struck the Herders' vehicle head-on.

Mozingo was ejected from his pickup and was found trapped underneath a Ford Taurus driven by Satchell. The Herders were trapped in their vehicle. It took rescue crews 40 minutes to extricate the couple.

Pervis Herder died at the scene. Mrs. Herder was taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. She was listed in fair condition, hospital officials said Tuesday.

Mozingo also was taken to Pitt, where he was treated and released. Satchell was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he also was treated and released.
