Robbery foiled

A store clerk foiled an armed robbery attempt at H&A Quick Mart on Central Heights Road Friday night. Three suspects entered the store. One of the robbers aimed a shotgun at the 69-year-old clerk and demanded money. Without hesitation, the clerk pulled out his pistol and the suspects bolted from the store. The suspects left empty-handed.

Suspect charged

Wayne County sheriff's Deputy Billy Wells and his dog Remco, tracked down a suspect that allegedly committed an armed robbery in the 300 block of Maple Street in Mount Olive. The dog tracked the suspect about six blocks . Charged was Richard Lee Oates, 38, of E. Hillsboro Street. He was being held at the Wayne County Jail on a $50,000 bond. The victim said the suspect was waiting inside her home when he assaulted and robbed her of $40.
