Five will compete Saturday for title of Miss Goldsboro

Five young women will compete Saturday night in the 2007 Miss Goldsboro Scholarship Pageant at the Mount Olive Historical Assembly Hall in Mount Olive.
The pageant is a preliminary contest in the Miss America Pageant. The winner will advance to the Miss North Carolina Pageant in June.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for $10, and also from any contestant.
Competing will be:
-- Jeri Anne Jackson, 18, the daughter of the Rev. Doctor and Mrs. Jerry Jackson of Goldsboro. She is a freshman at Methodist University in Fayetteville. Her platform issue is the Make a Wish Foundation. Her career ambition is to become a doctor of physical therapy for special needs children. She will perform a jazz dance to "I Feel the Earth Move."
-- Chelsea Grey Vinson, 17, the daughter of Joy and Douglas Vinson of Goldsboro. She is a senior at Eastern Wayne High School. She plans to attend East Carolina University. Her career ambition is to teach high school art. Her platform issue will be animal welfare. She will perform a jazz dance to "Think."
-- Jessica Leigh Winders, 21, the daughter of Carey and Teresa Winders of Pikeville. She is a graduate of Wayne Community College and attends East Carolina University, where she is studying elementary education. Her community service platform is organ donation. She will perform a lyrical ballet to "Whenever You Remember."
-- Nicki Sanderson, 18, the daughter of Vickey and Joseph Sanderson of Four Oaks. She attends East Carolina University, where she is studying to become a middle grades teacher. Her platform is melanoma awareness. She will perform a lyrical dance to "When You Believe."
-- Carmille Early, 17, the daughter of Carl and Kim Early of Goldsboro. She is a senior at Goldsboro High School. Her community service platform is community in schools and she would like to focus on helping young people stay in school. She will perform "Appalachian Air and Dance" on the piano.
