Driver charged in crash on Royall

A Goldsboro woman is still clinging to life more than four days after she was injured in a multi-vehicle accident on Jefferson Street and Royall Avenue on Monday.
Margaret Edmunds Musser was traveling west on Royall Avenue when a trailer attached to a truck hauled by Arthur Hawkins broke away and collided with her vehicle head-on, according to Goldsboro police reports.
The accident set off a chain reaction.
Mrs. Musser, 62, of North Harding Drive, ran off the road and crashed into a mailbox. Her 2000 Buick then traveled across an open field and crashed into a van.
The van crashed into a pickup truck that knocked over a phone booth, which "collided" with another van, police said.
Units from the Goldsboro Police Department, Goldsboro Fire Department and the Wayne County Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and helped free Mrs. Musser, who was trapped inside of her vehicle.
She was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital and later was transferred to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville where she was listed in critical condition, hospital officials said Thursday.
No other injuries were reported.
Hawkins, 55, of Edgerton Street, was cited for failure to secure load in the accident that caused more than $18,500 in damage.
Citing the incident was still under investigation, Goldsboro police Chief Tim Bell refused to release any information about the accident Tuesday morning.
