Officers suggest safety tips for young ghosts to enjoy Halloween

More than 500 children and adults braved rainy conditions to attend The Lord's Table Fall Festival Friday night.
Children dressed like princesses, pumpkins, Spider-Man and other popular Halloween costume favorites pranced around snacking on hotdogs and other goodies.
Members of the Goldsboro Fire Department showed off their fire safety house to teach fire prevention and the Goldsboro Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit was on hand to provide children with identification cards and make fingerprints cards in case of an emergency.
Dozens of moms and dads with their children in tow lined up by a table to collect their identification cards that were given out on floppy disks.
GPD Officers Cpl. Teresa Cox and Marissa Davis worked together to make the badges and fingerprint cards during the event, which was held from 5 to 8 p.m.
"We're putting them on floppy disks so parents can access them by computer or e-mail it to grandparents if they go away for the summer," Davis said. "We're not storing any information in the computer."
The GPD Crime Prevention Unit wants to ensure everyone stays safe this Halloween, so Davis and Cox compiled a list of safety tips.
*Carry a flashlight.
*Walk, don't run.
*Stay on sidewalks.
*Obey traffic signals.
*Stay in familiar neighborhoods.
*Make sure costumes don't drag, are flame-resistant and have reflective markings or tape.
*Avoid wearing masks while walking from house-to-house.
*Carrying only flexible knives, swords or other props.
*Approach only houses that are lit.
*Candy should be inspected before eaten. Look at wrapping carefully and toss out anything that looks suspect.
