Discussion about Wayne County Public Schools' construction needs is expected to resume within the next two weeks, school officials announced Thursday.
A meeting of the Master Facilities Plan Team will be scheduled in that timeframe, said Ken Derksen, public relations officer for the school system.
At that time, he said the group will delegate responsibilities to the three subcommittees -- financial, facilities and real estate and education. The subcommittees will then be responsible for collecting data and information, which will be turned over to the master team.
Prompted by a report from Evergreen Solutions, a consultant hired by the county to address construction needs in the public school system, the Master Facilities Plan Team was formed over the summer. The team is composed of representatives from the Board of Education and county commission.
The team's first order of business was to host community meetings in the feeder patterns of the school system to present the facilities plan and solicit feedback from the public. Starting in September, the series of weekly meetings was held at each of the six high schools.
Among the issues discussed were overcrowding, building conditions and how to pay for the improvements.
