Investigations
Wayne County sheriff’s deputies are investigating these reports:
•Someone set fire to a stack of tires next to a business at 3150 Stevens Mill Road about 3:30 a.m. today. The fire caused an estimated $1,500 damage to a Ford Ranger pickup truck owned by Michael Lee Faircloth.
Accidents
•David Eugene Quinn, 38, E. Holly Street, was seriously injured during a crash on Daw Pate Road and Stoney Creek Church Road at 7:13 p.m. Oct. 16, when he ran off the road while traveling at a high rate of speed. Quinn was thrown from his motorcycle during the crash. Quinn, who was cited for reckless driving, was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment. Damages were set at $1,500 bond.
•Christopher Mark Myatt, 36, Burrellfield Road, Snow Hill, was seriously injured during a crash on Stevens Mill and James Hinson roads at 1:17 p.m. Oct. 10, when he lost control of his tractor-trailer while coming around the curve too quickly and overturned. Myatt, who was cited for exceeding a safe speed, was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment. Damages were set at $47,000.
•Craig Joseph Decarlo, 55, Parkwood Lane, was seriously injured during a crash on Falling Creek Church and McArthur Pond roads in Mount Olive at 6:24 a.m. Oct. 10, when he ran off the road while swerving to avoid a deer and struck a culvert. Decarlo’s 1999 Nissan was traveling at 40 mph at the time of the crash. Damages were set at $8,000.
•Naomi McAdams Smith, 58, Woodside Drive, was cited for a safe movement violation after she collided into Ingrid Hope Pate, who was traveling north on Wayne Memorial Drive. Police said Smith, who was traveling in the opposite direction, crossed over three lanes when she struck Pate. Smith told police she sneezed right before the crash that occurred about 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Pate, 51, Church of God Road, who had visible injuries, was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital. Damages were estimated at $9,500.
•Lyndell Williams, 48, Johnson Lane, was cited for failure to yield the right of way, after he plowed into Billy Ray Pope, who was traveling south on Slocumb Street. Police said Pope came from a side road and turned into Pope’s path of travel about 8:05 p.m. Thursday. Pope, 40, Park Avenue, who had visible injuries, was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital. Damages were estimated at $1,500.
